Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love the remote control capabilities of their key fob. With a smartphone app they can lock and unlock the car or start the engine and even locate the vehicle.
First, place the fob onto a clean work surface with the logo facing upward. Find the button to release it. Put a coin between the cover of the fob and the fob, and carefully pull up.
Locking the Doors
Volvo's remote keyfobs let you unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap at the press of a button. They can also switch on the ignition, set the alarm, and even operate your sunroof, if it's equipped. You'll never have to search for your keys or get locked out of your vehicle.
If you have a new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might be unaware of some of its key fob hidden features. You can use the lock/unlock feature manual if the battery in your key fob fails.
Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo in the front to unlock or lock the manual lock. Find the black button near the edge of your key fob, and gently press it. This will open the cover that protects the key blade that is manual. The cover can be turned clockwise using a flathead, or coin.
The Engine is Ready to Start
Modern Volvo key fobs offer an ease of use and convenience that is unparalleled by manual keys. But, just like any other battery-powered electronic device the key fob may lose its charge, or cease working over time. If you've noticed that your key fob has become less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, that's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.
You can enable this feature by using the key fob if your vehicle has a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The car will then cool or heat to the same temperature it was set at while parked. It can run for up to 15 minutes.
Using a fingernail, carefully remove the cover on the back of the key fob. A button should be located beneath the cover on an angle, close to the edge of the body. Take it off by sliding it downwards, then to the right. The cover will fall off, and then slide off to reveal the manual blade! If you are unable to locate the button, look around the now-revealed manual key access to find a hidden lever or slot.
Close the Windows
Volvo key fobs come with an unnoticed feature that allows you to instantly roll down all the windows. This is a fantastic feature to have when trying to squeeze into a cramped parking space, or simply when you want to get some fresh air in the cabin while driving.
Press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower all the windows, as well as the sunroof in case your car has one. When you're finished with the car you can shut the doors by pressing the lock button again for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to activate your car's panic alarm. This will sound an intense, attention-grabbing roar that will frighten off thieves and allow you to return home safely after a long night out. This feature is handy should you reside in an area that is dangerous, or want to keep your family safe while away from home.
The opening of the Tailgate
Volvo's key fob is packed with a variety of useful features. These are great when you're swamped with groceries or helping kids pack their sports equipment after a workout.
If you have the Hands-Free Liftgate with Logo Projection and Programmable Height (if equipped) Then you can open it by using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button and then close it with the same button.

Turning off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are more convenient than a mechanical car key. However, they don't work completely for a long time, and the batteries eventually fail. It is possible to program your key fob at home if are in a rush or don't have time to visit the store.
Find a smooth surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and any other keys. Find the small black button located at the bottom left corner of the key fob, then move it to the right. The cover should fall off and expose the key blade that is mechanical underneath.
